This cocktail is inspired by my favorite summertime cologne, Hermès Pamplemousse Rose.
The flavors of the cocktail mimic the exact characteristics of the cologne: rose, grapefruit, spring florals, and dark vetiver.
The Hendrick's gin is crucial for providing the undercurrents of rose, but also the bite to mimic the vetiver. Building on top is the he elderflower from the St. Germain that provides a subtle floral sweetness. The bitterness and acidity from the freshly squeezed grapefruit juice brings together the entire cocktail. Finally the effervescence from the champagne carries the aroma when each bubble bursts at the surface.
2 parts Hendrick's gin
1 part St. Germain
2 parts freshly squeezed grapefruit juice
A splash of champagne (I like the warmth of the Veuve Clicquot for this)
Cocktail ice cube
Normal ice for shaking
Grapefruit peel twirl
In a shaker combine the gin, St. Germain, and grapefruit juice with ice and shake for 30 seconds
Place the cocktail ice cube in a glass, strain the mixture over the top
Top off with champagne
Place the grapefruit peel twirl for garnish
