Nearly 700 thousand people in southeast Michigan are food insecure. Sadly, children account for over a quarter of them. Food insecurity is not just the emergency need of food, but also deficits in proper nutrition — crucial for early childhood development.
Even with the vibrant resurgence of Detroit, food insecurity and hunger persists as a serious problem. Thus, when starting Alexandrine & Cass, we decided part of our core commitment was to ensure that we give back to our community. This was how we found Gleaners.
Gleaners helps people in need by providing millions of pounds of food while simultaneously educating them to reduce dependence.
Gleaners distributed 42 million pounds food in 2017 equating to nearly 90 thousand meals a day.
At least 40% of the people Gleaners serves are children. In addition to providing emergency food relief.
We’re honored to announce our partnership with Gleaners Community Food Bank where we’ll be donating 5% of our profits to help support their cause.
